PANIC

This is my BFA senior project that I completed in 2019 while attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Artist Statement

Expressing my emotions through animation allows me to portray my experiences through visual movements and sounds. Using a variety of techniques, such as smearing, extravagant motion, and overlaying distressing audio, creates an atmosphere that envelops the audience with the pressure and chaos that I experience on a daily basis. This social anxiety has always played a large part in my life and instills a fear of being rejected or becoming a burden. When interacting with others, it becomes difficult to talk about myself, especially my issues with anxiety. I want to convey this sense of discomfort while the setting and characters in my work are distant from myself and my personal life. By using engaging visuals and exaggerated animations to explore my feelings, I can better explain my fears in a way that encourages empathy from the viewer. The essence of my work seeks a space that is both about me and about others and works to bridge the gap between people with mental illness and their loved ones.
